Building Leadership

The Y sees our children as future leaders.

The Y sees our children as future leaders. We are proud to have had our first group of students graduate from high school to Jr. College in 2013, paving the way for others to follow in their footsteps. Likewise students at the Y are required to mentor and act as positive role models for their younger peers.

The Y Team uses everyday interactions, special classes and exciting field trips to open participants’ eyes and hearts to the value of leadership skills. Participants are coached to analyse the negative effect of ignoring one’s homework or bullying a younger child. Staff members and volunteers reward Y youth who go out of their way to help someone in need or those who attend study sessions on time for a month. These “aha” moments help participants learn to manage their emotions and develop their personal ethical codes.

We offer

Internships

The YMCA seeks to partner with local businesses to provide internship and traineeship opportunities for Y youth so that they are armed with workforce ready skills by the time they graduate High School and Jr. College. Please contact us if you are interested in taking on a YMCA intern.
