YMCA Summer Math and Reading Program in Review

YMCA Summer Math and Reading Program in Review

For years the YMCA has been providing summer programs in math and reading for our community. This year was no different for us here at the ‘Y’. On the 30th of June we once again opened our classroom door to children eager to learn despite the fact that school had just closed. As the days went by our classroom was filled with excitement and the laughter of fun learning. Each day the children attending the YMCA Summer Program had classes in math where they were learning fractions and the multiplication table. Reading in which their sight words and word recognition was developed and build on every day. Finally, the most fulfill part of the day was when the children went outside for sports. Our children played Volleyball, Football and Basketball. We did only allow them to just simply play the sport; we taught them key skills in each of the sports. This will not only help them to bump, kick or shoot a ball but to be a good team player and build on their character values which is far more important.  Each year there is a team of young adults volunteering  and working  behind the scenes preparing  activities and doing whatever it is to ensure that when the children arrive in the morning they have all that they need. Without the help and dedication of these youths this year’s math and reading program would not have been possible and for that we truly thank them.  Looking back at our 2014 Summer Programs I am happy to say that for four solid weeks we expanded knowledge, build character and provide fun activities for our children at the YMCA.
